About Cruise
Cruise is a Zone 2 heart-rate coach for iPhone and Apple Watch. During a workout your Apple Watch shows a live heart-rate ring and taps your wrist when you drift out of your aerobic base zone. Your iPhone handles setup and history. There are no accounts and no cloud; your heart-rate data stays on your devices.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I set up Cruise?
Open Cruise on your iPhone first. Onboarding asks how you want to set your maximum heart rate; either from your date of birth, where Cruise estimates 220 minus your age, or by entering a number yourself. Tap Start Cruising to finish. Then open Cruise on your Apple Watch, which picks up your maximum heart rate from the phone automatically.
How do I get Cruise onto my Apple Watch?
Cruise doesn’t pair separately; it rides on the pairing your iPhone and Apple Watch already have, and the watch app installs alongside the iPhone app. If you don’t see Cruise on your Watch, open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll down to Available Apps, and tap Install next to Cruise. Then open Cruise on the Watch once, with your iPhone nearby, so it can receive your maximum heart rate.
My iPhone says “No Apple Watch detected.”
Cruise couldn’t find a paired Apple Watch with the Cruise watch app installed. Check that your Watch is paired to this iPhone in the Watch app, then install Cruise on it using the steps above. Cruise needs the watch app because the workout itself runs on the Watch.
My iPhone says “Syncing to your Watch…” and it doesn’t finish.
That card means your Apple Watch hasn’t confirmed your maximum heart rate yet. Bring the two devices near each other and open Cruise on the Watch; the phone re-sends the value whenever the watch app becomes active. If the card is still there, go to the Settings tab on iPhone, change your Max HR, then change it back; saving pushes a fresh value to the Watch.
My Apple Watch says “Finish Setup on iPhone.”
The watch app hasn’t received your maximum heart rate yet. Open Cruise on your iPhone and complete onboarding if you haven’t already, then open Cruise on the Watch again with your iPhone nearby. Until it receives your value, the Watch falls back to a neutral default of 180 bpm, so setting it up matters for accurate coaching.
My Apple Watch says “Heart Rate Access Needed.”
Cruise needs permission to read your heart rate and to save workouts to Apple Health. Tap Try Again and allow both when prompted. If you already declined, you can grant it on your iPhone: open Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices, tap Cruise, and turn on the heart-rate and workout permissions.
How do I start and end a workout?
On your Apple Watch, open Cruise and tap Start Workout. You’ll see your live heart rate and how long you’ve held Zone 2. When you’re done, tap End. Cruise saves the workout to Apple Health and sends a summary to your iPhone.
What do the taps on my wrist mean?
Once you’ve held Zone 2 for 30 seconds, Cruise plays a short confirmation tap, then repeats it every 30 seconds while you stay in the zone. If you drift out of Zone 2 for more than 10 seconds, you get a different alert tap, and it repeats every 60 seconds until you’re back in. Cruise never makes a sound; it’s haptics only, so you don’t have to look at your wrist while you train.
How does Cruise decide what my Zone 2 is?
Zone 2 is your aerobic base: 60 to 70 percent of the maximum heart rate you set. Cruise calculates it from that one number, so getting your max HR right is the thing that matters most. You can see the exact low and high BPM for your Zone 2 in the Settings tab on iPhone. Cruise accepts a maximum heart rate between 120 and 220 bpm.
How do I change my maximum heart rate?
On iPhone, open the Settings tab and adjust Max HR. Changes sync to your Apple Watch automatically the next time it’s reachable.
My finished workout didn’t show up on my iPhone.
The Watch sends each summary to your iPhone in the background, which can wait until the two devices are in range of each other. Open Cruise on your iPhone with your Watch nearby and give it a moment. Note that very short sessions are deliberately not saved; if a workout ran under 30 seconds or recorded no heart-rate readings, the Watch tells you it “ended early” and there will be nothing to sync.
Does Cruise work without my iPhone?
Yes, once you’re set up. The workout runs entirely on your Apple Watch and works offline; no phone and no internet connection required. Your iPhone is only needed for setup, for changing your maximum heart rate, and for viewing your history.
Do my Cruise workouts appear in Apple Health and Fitness?
Yes. Cruise saves each finished workout to Apple Health as an “Other” workout, so it counts toward your Activity rings and shows up in the Fitness app. If your Watch says “Saved to Cruise, but couldn’t write to Apple Health,” the session was kept in Cruise but Cruise didn’t have permission to write the workout; check the Health permissions described above.
How do I delete a workout, or all of my data?
Swipe left on any workout in the History tab to delete it. Because Cruise stores everything on your device and has no account, deleting the app removes its data entirely. Workouts already written to Apple Health stay under Apple’s control; delete those from the Health app.
Does Cruise cost anything?
No. Cruise is free. There is no subscription and there are no in-app purchases.
