Cruise Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 16, 2026

Cruise is a Zone 2 heart-rate coach for iPhone and Apple Watch. Your
heart-rate data stays on your device. This page explains, in plain
language, what the app collects, what it doesn’t, and how to reach us.

1. Who runs Cruise

Cruise is made by Jose Negrete, a sole proprietor in Dallas, Texas. There
is no company behind Cruise, no team, and no investors; just one
developer building the app on the side.

2. What Cruise does with your heart rate

The Apple Watch app reads your heart rate through Apple HealthKit during a
workout so it can keep you in Zone 2 (aerobic base) with live feedback and
haptics. Your heart-rate data:

  • Never leaves your Apple Watch or iPhone.
  • Is not sent to us, to any server, or to any third party.
  • Is not included in any analytics or crash report; an explicit
code-level rule (see Telemetry.swift) blocks any event
property whose name mentions heart, hr,
bpm, or health from ever being sent.

When you save a workout, Cruise writes it to Apple Health (so it counts
toward your Activity rings) and keeps a summary on your device for the
History tab: start/end time, average heart rate, and time spent in each
zone. Your workout data is stored locally on your device and protected
with iOS Data Protection encryption. It is excluded from iCloud backups
and never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it.

3. Anonymous usage events

The iPhone app sends a small number of anonymous events to PostHog so we
can see whether the app works; for example, whether onboarding actually
finishes, or whether workout summaries arrive from the watch. Events are
keyed by a random device id that PostHog generates on first launch; we
have no way to link that id to you.

The full list of events Cruise fires:

  • app_launch; the app started (cold launch).
  • session_started; a new usage session began (after
30 minutes of inactivity, matching Apple’s convention).
  • screen_viewed; you opened a screen (Home, History,
Settings). Only the static screen name is sent.
  • watch_paired; an Apple Watch running Cruise was
detected. Fires at most once per launch. No hardware model.
  • workout_session_recorded; a Zone 2 workout finished
and was saved. We send only a random session id and the duration in
milliseconds. Never the heart rate, the average
heart rate, or the time-in-zone breakdown.
  • feature_flag_evaluated; an internal flag was read.
Records the flag name and the variant returned, nothing else.

The Apple Watch app sends zero telemetry. It is fully offline.

4. Anonymous crash reports

The iPhone app sends anonymous crash reports and performance samples to
Sentry so problems can be diagnosed. Sentry receives the crash stack, the
device model, the OS version, and an app-generated random installation
id. It does not receive your name, your email, your Apple ID, your
advertising id (IDFA), or any heart-rate data. Emails and other patterns
that look sensitive are scrubbed before the report is sent.

5. Third-party services

Cruise uses exactly two third-party SDKs, both on the iPhone only:

  1. PostHog. Anonymous product analytics
    (the events listed above).
    posthog.com/privacy
  2. Sentry. Anonymous crash and performance
    reporting.
    sentry.io/privacy

That’s the entire list. Cruise does not use ads, does not use
attribution SDKs, does not use Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, or
any advertising network. Apple Health and Apple HealthKit are Apple
frameworks running on your device, not third parties Cruise sends data
to.

6. What Cruise does not collect

  • We do not collect your name, email, or phone number.
  • We do not ask you to make an account.
  • We do not collect your location.
  • We do not collect your advertising identifier (IDFA).
  • We do not sell or share your data.
  • We do not use your data for advertising or third-party profiling.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.

7. Where your data lives

Your workout history is stored on your iPhone in a file only Cruise can
read. Your max heart rate and onboarding preferences live in the app’s
own settings storage. Your Apple Health workouts live in Apple Health,
under your control. Cruise has no server, no backup, and no cloud
account.

On the Apple Watch, the same on-device rules apply: max heart rate lives
in the watch app’s own settings storage, and finished workouts are sent
to the paired iPhone over WatchConnectivity. Nothing is transmitted off
your devices.

8. Retention and deletion

Your workout history stays on your device until you delete it; either
from Cruise’s History tab or by deleting the app. Deleting the app
removes Cruise’s local files. Workouts saved to Apple Health remain
there under Apple’s control; delete them from Apple Health if you want
them gone.

Because Cruise has no server, there is no account for us to delete on
your behalf. Anonymous PostHog and Sentry events already in flight or
already stored cannot be traced back to you, and are retained per those
services’ own policies (linked above).

9. Children

Cruise is not directed at children under 17 and does not knowingly
collect data from them.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change what Cruise collects, this page will be updated and the
“Last updated” date at the top will change. Material changes will be
called out in the App Store release notes.
