Cruise Privacy Policy

Cruise is a Zone 2 heart-rate coach for Apple Watch and iPhone. Your heart-rate data stays on your devices. This policy explains what Cruise keeps, the little that leaves your iPhone, and why.

Your heart rate and workouts

During a workout, the Apple Watch app reads your heart rate through Apple HealthKit so it can keep you in Zone 2 with live feedback and haptics. Cruise also reads active energy and past workouts from Apple Health, with your permission.

Nothing Cruise reads from HealthKit is sent to us or to any third party.
Heart-rate data is never included in analytics or crash reports. The app blocks any event field whose name mentions heart, HR, BPM or health.

When you finish a workout:

Cruise saves it to Apple Health, so it counts toward your Activity rings.
Cruise keeps a summary on your iPhone for the History tab: start and end time, average heart rate, and time in each zone.

Workout summaries are stored in files that only Cruise can read. They are encrypted with iOS Data Protection and excluded from iCloud and device backups. Your max heart rate and onboarding choices are kept in the app’s settings on each device.

The Apple Watch sends finished workouts to your paired iPhone. The watch app sends nothing else, to anyone.

Cruise has no account, no server and no cloud storage of your workouts.

What leaves your iPhone

The iPhone app sends two kinds of data, so we can tell whether Cruise works.

Usage events (PostHog)

These are the only events Cruise sends:

app_launch: the app started.
session_started: a new usage session began.
screen_viewed: you opened a screen (for example Home, History or Settings). Only the screen name is sent.
watch_paired: an Apple Watch with Cruise installed was detected. No hardware model.
feature_flag_evaluated: an internal setting was read. Only the setting’s name and value.
workout_session_recorded: a workout was finished and saved. Only a random workout ID and how long the workout lasted. Never your heart rate, average heart rate or time in zones.

Events are tied to a random ID that PostHog creates when you first open Cruise. It is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID or advertising ID, and we can’t use it to find out who you are. There is no screen recording and no automatic tap or screen tracking.

Crash reports (Sentry)

When the iPhone app crashes or runs slowly, Sentry receives the error, a stack trace, your device model and iOS version, and a random installation ID. We scrub emails and other sensitive-looking text before a report is sent. Sentry does not receive your name, email, Apple ID, advertising ID or any heart-rate data.

Why we use it

Usage events: to see whether features work, for example whether workouts arrive from the watch.
Crash reports: to find and fix bugs.

We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.

Who we share it with

PostHog: the usage events above. posthog.com/privacy
Sentry: crash and performance reports. sentry.io/privacy

Both process data for us, in the United States. Like any internet service, they can see your IP address when your iPhone connects.

Apple Health and HealthKit run on your devices under your control. They are not services Cruise sends data to.

What Cruise does not collect

Your name, email or phone number. There is no account.
Your location.
Your advertising identifier (IDFA).
Any heart-rate or other HealthKit data, off your devices.

Linked to you, or not

Nothing Cruise collects is linked to you. Usage events and crash reports use random IDs that we can’t connect to your identity.

Your choices and rights

Delete a workout from Cruise: swipe it away in the History tab.
Delete everything in Cruise: delete the app from your iPhone and Apple Watch. This removes Cruise’s local files.
Your workouts in Apple Health are yours. You can view, export or delete them in the Health app.
HealthKit access: change or turn off what Cruise can read in the Health app, under Sharing, Apps.
Analytics: there is no switch in Cruise to turn analytics off yet. Until there is, email us and we will help.
Questions or requests: email us. We will answer within 30 days. Because the IDs aren’t linked to you, we may not be able to find your data from your email alone.

What we process: the usage events and crash reports described above. Heart-rate and other HealthKit data never reach us.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests, which are keeping the app working and improving it. You can object at any time by emailing us.
Processors: Sentry and PostHog, both in the United States.
Transfers: the usage events and crash reports are processed in the United States.
Your rights: you can ask to access or delete your data, and you can object to processing. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).

Children

Cruise is a general-audience fitness app. It does not ask for or collect names, emails or other contact details from anyone, including children.

Security

Workout history on your iPhone is encrypted with iOS Data Protection and excluded from backups.
Connections to PostHog and Sentry are encrypted (TLS).

No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what leaves your iPhone to a minimum.

Changes

If we change what Cruise collects, we will update this policy and the date at the top before the new version is released. We will mention important changes in the App Store release notes.
